Lady'Back softball travels to Kansas

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team travels to Lawrence, Kan., Tuesday to face the Kansas Jayhawks in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The Lady Razorbacks enter the contest on a three-game winning streak after sweeping Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky this weekend. The Lady’Backs defeated Kentucky by scores of 14-8, 5-2, and 2-0. The In the first game of the series, Arkansas tied the single game records for most runs scored (14) and most hits (19), and broke the record for most runs batted in (14). Sophomore Whitney Cloer also broke the single game record for most hits in a game with five. Cloer was 5-for-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored, two doubles and one home run. The With the series sweep, Arkansas improved to 15-30 overall and 3-10 in the SEC. The “This weekend was a big weekend,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “They saw what they were capable of.” Kansas (25-11-1, 2-2 Big 12) continues a five-game home stand Tuesday hosting Arkansas. The Jayhawks come off of two losses to No. 12 Baylor, 8-2 and 5-3. KU scored all its runs Sunday from home runs. Sara Ramirez hit a solo shot and Elle Pottorf blasted a two-run homer. The “We’re in a unique situation where we’re located that we can step out of the SEC and play another power conference,” said Pinkerton. “Kansas is tough. If we go in and play solid defense, and play like we did this weekend, we can make some nice progress going into the weekend at Florida.” The Arkansas offense is directed by freshman Jessica Bachkora with a .321 batting average, 44 hits, nine doubles, 24 runs, and a .372 on-base percentage. The Jayhawks are led by Stevie Crisosto who has a .354 batting average, 40 hits, 29 runs, eight doubles and 10 stolen bases.
