Lady'Back tennis announces first signee for the 2008-2009 class

FAYETTEVILLE – Emily Carbone has always dreamt of playing tennis in the Southeastern Conference, and that dream became reality when head coach Michael Hegarty announced her as the first signee for the 2008 Arkansas Lady Razorback tennis class.

Carbone, a native of Lexington, Ky., has been ranked No.1 overall in the state of Kentucky since here freshman year of high school, and is ranked as the 29th overall prospect in the 2008 class according to TennisRecruiting.net.

“We are very pleased Emily has decided to join our team, and we expect a big impact from her as we take our program to the next level,” said Hegarty.

Carbone was Kentucky’s high school state tournament runner-up her freshman and sophomore years, and claimed the title her junior season as the Kentucky State Champion. She also led her team to a state championship her freshman and senior seasons, and a runner-up finish her junior year.

“She has grown up around SEC competition, and that will be a huge advantage for her as she begins her career at Arkansas,” Hegarty said.

In addition, Carbone has an impressive family background in tennis. Both parents played tennis at Austin Peay University, while her father, Donald, is the director and owner of a tennis club.
