Lady'Back volleyball looks to rebound at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team is trying to wash the bitter taste of defeat from its mouth looking to regroup with a better performance at Ole Miss Sunday in Oxford, Miss.

Arkansas (10-11, 4-7 SEC) suffered a three-game loss at No. 25 LSU Friday in match in which neither team played well.

“It was a disappointing loss,” Arkansas head coach Chris Poole said of LSU, “but we have to regroup. There are no nights off in the SEC and we know that Ole Miss will be ready for us.”

Ole Miss began the week tied for first place with LSU and Alabama in the SEC’s Western Division, but the Lady Rebels suffered a mid-week four-game loss to LSU that saw them tumble to third in the division. In addition, Ole Miss has the added incentive of having already beaten Arkansas once this year in Fayetteville.

“This is a completely different match up (than LSU),” said Poole. “We know that we need to be more consistent and eliminate our unforced errors. Everyone in the SEC is tough and we’re going to have to raise our level of play to meet that.”

Arkansas had won four of its last five including a big five-game win against fifth-ranked Florida but the Lady’Backs’ offense struggled against LSU. Four players hit negative and Arkansas’ leader had only 13 kills for the entire match.

“We had four players hit negative. What more do you have to say,” said Poole.

The Lady Razorbacks find themselves on the short side of the 2007 season with only nine regular season matches remaining and a lot of ground to make up.

Arkansas returns to Fayetteville for a home stand with Alabama and Mississippi State then hits the road for four in a row at South Carolina, Florida, Auburn and Georgia. The regular season concludes with home matches against Tennessee, Kentucky and a non-conference match with Connecticut.

Several of those matches including the 1:30 p.m. match at Ole Miss can be heard live in Northwest Arkansas on KXUA, 88.3 FM or online at LADYBACKS.COM.
