Jump to Auburn box FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas used 12 team blocks and 13 kills from Kele Brewer downing Southeastern Conference Western Division rival Auburn in three games Sunday in Barnhill Arena. Brewer hit .300 for the match with one dig and three blocks as the Lady Razorbacks out-performed Auburn in nearly ever statistical category in the 30-28, 33-31, 30-19 win. The victory improves Arkansas to 12-10 overall and they lead the West with a 9-3 mark while Auburn fell to 8-12 overall and 3-9 in the league. The three-game win was the third in a row in which Arkansas has won in straight sets and the second of the year for the Lady’Backs over Auburn. Arkansas stepped up its offensive production hitting .239 with 51 kills. Brewer was the only Lady’Back in double-digit kills but sophomore Denitza Koleva and senior Jennifer Haaser added nine each while freshman Jessica Dorrell tallied eight. Dorrell seems to like Auburn hitting .308 in today’s match and having a career day with 12 kills and a .474 hitting percentage. The Lady’Backs allowed Auburn to stay close in games one and two but turned up the heat in the final frame. Leading 12-11, freshman Amanda Eskridge stepped back to the service line for Arkansas. Eskridge remained their giving her team a 20-11 lead serving for nine straight points and sealing the victory. “It was a good effort today,” said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. “We were balanced, played within ourselves and never got rattled on the floor.” The win is the fifth in a row for Arkansas and also their fifth match in 10 days. The schedule doesn’t let up either with the Lady’Backs hosting non-conference boarder rival Oral Roberts Tuesday, and traveling to No. 16 Tennessee Friday followed by a road match at South Carolina Sunday.
