Arkansas opened the day with a win over No. 16 Purdue, 3-2-0, but fell to No. 1 Georgia, 1-4-0 in the afternoon session at Eagle Creek Golf Course. The Lady’Backs lone second-round win came from freshman Alex Schulte. Schulte defeated Georgia’s Alina Lee 6 & 5 in a solid performance. “It was closer than the scores look,’ said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester of the second round performance. “Lucy (Nunn) actually lost in the last hole and got beat by one but she played well. It’s disappointing not to win but overall we played pretty well.” Junior Stacy Lewis fell, 2 & 1 to Taylor Leon of Georgia in a match that went down to the wire with Leon birding the second to last hole ending the match. Sophomore Lucy Nunn fell 1 down to Whitney Wade and junior Ashley Medders lost to Mallory Hetze 3& 2. Finally, freshman Tiffany Phelps dropped her match 6 & 5 to Garrett Phillips. Arkansas faces Southeastern Conference rival LSU in the consolation bracket Saturday. LSU lost 3-1-1 to Vanderbilt in their second round match. Arkansas opened the day with a 3-2-0 win over No. 16 Purdue in the first round. Arkansas got wins from Lewis, Phelps and Schulte edging the Boilermakers and propelling the team into a showdown with top-ranked Georgia Friday afternoon. Lewis, the top-ranked amateur in the nation largely due to her match play ability, defeated Purdue’s Maria Hernandez, 3 & 2. The match was square through four holes when Lewis birdied a par three taking a lead she would not surrender. Schulte defeated Purdue’s Whitney Frykman 2 up. She also grabbed an early lead and never trailed in the match. Phelps’ match was more dramatic with a come-from-behind surge. Phelps defeated Stephanie Oukeo 2 & 1 squaring the match on the 16th hole and taking the lead on the 17th hole and holding on for the win. "They’re kinda fired up," said Hester. "It was a lot of fun this morning and the win sets us up against Georgia this afternoon. Stacy actually faces the player that beat her in the North and South Championship last summer and it should be very exciting."
