Lady'Backs flying high heading into Florida match

FAYETTEVILLE – Coming off a pair of tremendous road victories, the University of Arkansas Lady Razorback soccer team returns to Lady’Back Field for a Sunday afternoon match with the University of Florida at 12:30 p.m.

Arkansas returned to Fayetteville on Saturday following their stirring 2-1 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks on Friday night where junior Christina Burger scored a pair of goals to lead Arkansas to their second consecutive SEC victory. The back-to-back wins by the Lady Razorbacks moved them up two places in the overall conference standings which now have Arkansas playing to remain as one of the top eight teams in the conference and earn them a return trip to the SEC Championship Tournament.

Florida enters Sunday’s match with an overall record of 11-4-1 and 6-2-1 in SEC play. The Gators are chasing Tennessee for the conference’s eastern division championship, but also for a better seed in the conference tournament having already clinched a spot last weekend.

Historically, Florida has been a thorn in Arkansas’ side as the two squads have met nine times over the years with the Gators taking each of the contests. While the record is heavily in Florida’s favor, the games have been closer and several are some of the most remembered in SEC history. From the 1996 SEC Championship Tournament final which went into overtime to the 1999 tournament first-round match that pushed the defending national champions to the brink, Arkansas has always played well against Florida. Even over the past two seasons, Arkansas has closed the gap on the Gators as the Lady’Backs have suffered heart wrenching 2-1 losses.
