Lady'Backs gear up for Hurricane Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE – After a good showing at the William & Mary Tribe Classic last weekend, the Arkansas Lady Razorback tennis team looks ahead to the Tulsa Hurricane Invitation this weekend.

“This event is such a good opportunity for match play and to gain more confidence,” said Lady’Back head coach Michael Hegarty

The Hurricane Invitational will feature the Big XII Conference’s own Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and host Tulsa. The Tulsa Lady Hurricanes finished the 2006-2007 season ranked No. 44 overall while Oklahoma State finished at No. 59.

Play begins Friday and runs through Sunday including four singles flight of eight players, and two flights of eight doubles teams. Each team in the tournament falls in Arkansas’ ITA Central Region.

“Another plus to the Invitational is we get to see regional competition, and play in the same facility in which the regional championship will be held in a month,” Hegarty said.

At last weekend’s William & Mary Tribe Classic, the Lady’Backs claimed two singles titles and placed in doubles.

Junior Aurelija Miseviciute captured the Flight A singles title with a win over Kellie Schmitt of Marshall, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Audrey Bordeleau won Flight D by fighting back again Virginia’s Maggie Yahner, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles, the Lady Razorbacks were able to place second and third in Flight A respectively. Juniors Ela Kaluder and Miseviciute took home second while senior Maryori Franco and junior Nanar Airepetian placed third.
