Lady'Backs Hit Diamond for First Fall Tournament

FAYETTEVILLE-The Arkansas softball team opens the fall season as the Lady Razorbacks host Crowder College, Evangel University and Neosho County Community College, Saturday, Sept. 17, at Lady’Back Yard.

The Arkansas Fall Festival begins at 9:00 a.m. when the Lady’Backs meet Crowder. The Lady’Backs face Evangel at 5:00 p.m. and conclude the tournament with Neosho at 7:00 p.m.

Arkansas softball head coach Jamie Pinkerton said the coaching staff is excited to start the fall season with the Lady’Backs welcoming 11 new players to the squad.

“We have 11 returners and 11 newcomers and the 11 returners have been great,” Pinkerton said. “All the returners have reported back in good shape.”

Four seniors lead the Lady’Back crew into the new season with catcher Shana Easley, infielder Blaire Perry, outfielder Mindy O’Malley and infielder Barbara-Jean Southmayd taking charge.

Pinkerton said the returning Lady’Backs have challenged the newest additions, which includes two junior college transfers and nine true freshmen.

“It’s been healthy competition,” Pinkerton said. “I think we are going to be better for that competition. Hopefully, we get a lot accomplished and learn a lot.”
