Lady'Backs host SMU

The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team looks to extend its 9-0 record Tuesday against the Southern Methodist University Mustangs at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. The Lady Razorbacks have never won 10 matches in a row, and are currently tied with the old record set in middle of the 1997-98 season. Last season, the Lady’Backs defeated the Mustangs 5-2 in Fayetteville. Arkansas lost the doubles point, but rallied in singles to decide the match. All-time, the Lady Razorbacks are 7-11 against SMU. The Lady’Backs have beaten the Mustangs the last three of four years. The Lady’Backs are coming off a solid 4-0 weekend that began with a 7-0 blanking of Southwest Missouri State, improving to 27-0 all-time against the Bears. Arkansas carried the momentum from that match to beat Kansas State on Saturday, 4-3. On Sunday, the Lady Razorbacks hosted a doubleheader against North Texas and Abilene Christian. The Lady’Backs quickly disposed of North Texas Sunday morning, 6-1, and shutout Abilene Christian, 7-0 that afternoon. The 9-0 start also marks the best start to a season in Lady Razorback tennis history. The previous record was held by a 1986-87 squad that won seven matches to open the season. Southern Methodist brings four players who are currently undefeated, including 7-0 Halley Rambally. “Tuesday brings another stiff test,” said Hegarty. “It will be a tough turnaround for us.” Live scoring is available by following the stats link.
