Lady'Backs play for postseason on senior night

FAYETTEVILLE – In a night filled with nostalgia and promotion, the University of Arkansas Lady Razorback soccer teams honors its senior class in the final home match of their careers on Friday night against Louisiana State at 7:00 p.m., with giveaways of $1,000 scheduled throughout the evening.

Arkansas currently holds the eighth seed in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, but is being trailed by LSU who are two points behind the Lady Razorbacks. An Arkansas win or tie would propel the Lady Razorbacks to the tournament for the first time in these senior classes’ careers and guarantee Arkansas its best conference finish since the 2000 season.

“The SEC Tournament begins on Friday night,” Arkansas head coach Gordon Henderson said. “It’s nice to know that we hold our fate in our hands. There is a big difference between this team and others and that is they believe that they can win against anyone. It should be a good game on Friday and with the generous support of the Ingram Futbol Club and their donation, I hope that we can bring another record crowd to Lady’Back Field.” While the showcase of the evening will be the presentation of senior gifts and the pivotal match up between the two teams, the Lady Razorbacks will also be giving away $50 gas cards from Wal-Mart and gift certificates for Arkansas merchandise. Tickets for the 20 giveaways may be obtained as fans enter Lady’Back Field.

Historically, the Arkansas-LSU match has been very even with Arkansas (5-4-1) holding a slight edge in the series. Interestingly, the Lady’Backs are a perfect 4-0-0 at home against the Tigers and have never lost two consecutive matches to the Bayou Bengals who halted Arkansas’ dreams of advancing to the SEC Tournament in 2004 with a 3-0 victory in Baton Rouge.

The last meeting between the two schools in Fayetteville led to an exciting 3-2 victory for the Lady Razorbacks back in 2003. That contest saw a flurry of scoring in the opening period followed by tough defense in the second half. Arkansas picked up their game-winning goal on a tremendous direct kick that sailed through the wall of players set up before the goal and into the net.
