Lady'Backs Prepare for No. 22 Mississippi State

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team is ready for its first Southeastern Conference contest in Fayetteville as the Lady Razorbacks hosts No. 22 Mississippi State, Saturday, March 18, with a doubleheader slated for 1:00 p.m. The series concludes Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Lady’Backs (12-11) trail the Bulldogs (21-6) in the overall series 13-21. Last season, Mississippi State swept Arkansas, 5-4, 1-0 and 2-1 in Starkville, Miss.

Arkansas softball head coach Jamie Pinkerton said he expects a challenge from the Bulldogs. Five of Mississippi State’s six losses have been to top 25 teams.

“This team is playing really well right now,” he said. “They are a very good hitting team. Their pitching is doing extremely well right now. It’s definitely going to be a good contest.”

Senior Blaire Perry leads the Lady’Backs with a .304 batting average and 21 hits, while also posting a 1.46 ERA. Sophomore infielder Dayna Huckabee paced the team in the loss to Oklahoma City, March 16, when she had a two-RBI triple, which is her third of the season. Currently, Huckabee has a team-high 13 RBIs.
