Lady'Backs Qualify at Last Chance

FAYETTEVILLE-The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team was successful in its final bid at postseason marks, Saturday, Feb. 26, with freshmen divers Hilarie Wilson and Jamie Hyslop qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships and senior Zsuzsa Csobanki nearly missing a NCAA automatic qualifying time.

Wilson and Hyslop qualified on the one-meter springboard for the championships, March 11-13, in College Station, Texas with their performances at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Georgia. The diving duo join freshman Brieanne Kushner as she qualified, Jan. 10, against Tennessee.

Arkansas diving coach Scott Reich said he was happy with his young pair of divers and he believes they can do well in the postseason.

They’re freshmen so we had to build and not rush their progression,” Reich said. “It’s great that they both qualified. I think they have a shot at making the NCAAs.”

At the Razorback Invitational, Csobanki missed the NCAA automatic standard time by .02 seconds in the 50 freestyle. Senior Whitney Lynn and freshman Emily Gregory have made NCAA ‘B’ cuts, the Lady’Backs wait until March 4 to learn if they compete in the NCAA Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., March 17-19.
