Lady'Backs Set for Home Opener

FAYETTEVILLE-The University of Arkansas softball team opens the 2005 season at home when it hosts the Lady’Back Invitational, Feb. 26-27 with games beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Lady Razorbacks meet Missouri-Kansas City at 1 p.m. followed by a match-up with Louisiana-Monroe at 3 p.m. Saturday. Games continue Sunday starting at 11 a.m.

Arkansas softball head coach Jamie Pinkerton said his team is ready to play in front of a Lady’Back crowd after playing in three consecutive road tournaments.

“I think the kids will have pep in their step because we’re at home and that will be good,” Pinkerton said. “It’s always nice to play on your home field.”

Sophomore outfielder Rachel LeMaster leads the Lady’Backs with a team-high .444 batting average and 16 hits. Senior infielder Ashley Carter follows with a .375 batting average and 12 hits. Sophomore infielder Kallie Foglesong paces Arkansas with a team-high four doubles.

Pinkerton said he was thrilled to begin his tenure as the second coach in Lady’Back history with Arkansas’ weekend contest.

“Obviously, I’m excited from a head coach’s position to be making my home debut here at Lady’Back Yard,” Pinkerton said.

Due to the multiple Arkansas athletic events, fans are encouraged to park in the parking deck near the Arkansas Student Union or the parking lot located north of the Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
