Lady'Backs Set to Compete in SEC Championships

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team begins competition at the Southeastern Conference Championships, Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Knoxville, Tenn.

The contest starts at 11:00 a.m. with the 200-medley relay, 800-freestyle relay and the one-meter springboard events with the finals beginning at 4:00 p.m. The championships conclude Saturday, Feb. 18.

Arkansas swimming head coach Anne Goodman James said the Lady’Backs expect a tough test at the meet with several of the programs currently highly ranked in the national polls including last season’s national champions, Georgia.

“It’s going to be quite a challenge, we’ll have No. 1, 2, and 4,” she said.

Goodman James said the Lady’Backs are looking to qualify for the NCAA Champions in addition to placing in the conference meet.

“We’re kind of going for a delicate balance of our team efforts as well as individual goals that we’re trying to achieve,” she said. “I believe we’ve got a couple of possibilities of making the NCAA Championships and those are number one in our sights.”
