Lady'Backs take on top-ranked Lady Vols in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, TENN. – The University of Arkansas softball team travels to No. 1 Tennessee for a Southeastern Conference three-game series beginning Saturday, March 24 at 12 p.m. CT, in Knoxville, Tenn. The series concludes Sunday with single game at 12 p.m. Wednesday the Lady Razorbacks (12-15, 0-5 SEC) faced the No. 2 team in the nation, Alabama, dropping the SEC doubleheader, 9-0 and 5-2. Despite falling two games, Arkansas produced 10 hits on the day and had base runners in nine out of 12 innings. Sophomore Whitney Cloer led Lady’Back offense going 3-for-5 with a double. Cloer was followed by freshman Jessica Bachkora who was 3-for-6 with one run scored, and senior Rachel LeMaster, who went 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. “We have another tough task ahead of us,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “We just have to try to take this offensive momentum and go to Knoxville.” The top-ranked Lady Vols enter the contest with a 30-2 overall record and a 9-1 league mark. They swept South Carolina in a midweek doubleheader Wednesday by scores of 2-0 and 1-0.Tennessee has a team batting average of .311 and a team ERA of 0.57. They are led by senior pitcher Monica Abbott who has 338 strikeouts and 15 shutouts this season. Arkansas is 10-18 against Tennessee in the all-time series. The Lady Vols swept the Lady’Backs in last season’s three-game series in Fayetteville. Fans unable to make it to Knoxville this weekend can still follow the action live.
