Lady'Backs travel to Bama for televised match

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas volleyball team continues Southeastern Conference action traveling to Alabama for a 6:00 p.m., match in Tuscaloosa, The Lady Razorbacks (10-5, 3-4 SEC) are this week’s SEC Match of the Week. The match is produced by FSN and should be seen locally in the Northwest Arkansas area in FOX Sports Southwest. Arkansas is coming off back-to-back SEC losses to Mississippi and No. 10 LSU and is looking to regain some momentum with the single match this weekend. "Alabama is a very good serving and passing team," said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. "They are very aggressive and they play in a great and intimating atmosphere. This will be another tough match." The Lady Razorbacks got a big performance Wednesday against LSU from senior Amy Allison. The Jenks, Okla., native hit a season-best .571 and tied her career-best with 14 kills against the Tigers. Junior Ashley Miller collected a school record 36 digs and freshman Destiny Clark tallied a school record 18 blocks. In addition senior Denitza Koleva has posted a double-double for kills and digs in nearly every match this season. "We have a lot of talent and a balanced offense," said Poole. "We just aren’t always consistent. I think this team enjoys the big atmosphere matches and I’m sure this will be a good match." The Lady Razorbacks are seven matches into the 20-match conference season in what has been a wild league schedule. The SEC changed its format dropping the conference tournament in favor of a double round robin schedule with home-and-away matches against all the league’s teams. This year has seen several early-season upsets and a Western Division team, LSU, leads the league as its only undefeated team. "We still have 13 more SEC matches to play," said Poole. "We’re looking to get on a roll and see what happens. The conference has improved so much and every match is exciting this year." The Lady Razorbacks are also on the road next weekend traveling to Florida and Auburn. Arkansas returns home hosting nationally-ranked Tennessee Oct. 20, and Kentucky Oct. 22 in Barnhill Arena.
