Lady'Backs voted ninth; Ervin preseason all-SEC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Arkansas women’s basketball team was voted to finish ninth in the Southeastern Conference race by the league’s media.

The poll was released in conjunction with the SEC’s annual Media Day. Lady’Back head coach Tom Collen made his first appearance at the media gathering, and was not surprised by the selection.

"Over the past few seasons, that’s where Arkansas has finished," Collen said. "That’s not saying its where we think we can finish, but it’s consistant with what has happened recently."

Arkansas’ representative at the media day, senior post Lauren Ervin, was selected for the second team preseason all-SEC squad by the media. Last year, Ervin averaged a double-double, the first player since 1989 to do so at Arkansas, and earned second team all-SEC from the coaches.

Tennessee was tabbed by the writers to win the title and junior Candice Parker was the consensus preseason player of the year pick.
