Lady'Backs voted preseason 10th by SEC media

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Arkansas Lady Razorback basketball team was picked 10th by the media at the 2006 Southeastern Conference Basketball Media Days.

Earlier in the week, senior Sarah Pfeifer was chosen second team preseason all-SEC by the league’s coaches.

Arkansas’ selection in 10th place was a slight improvement over last season when the media tabbed the Lady’Backs in a tie for 10th. However, the Lady’Backs finished tied for eighth last season in spite of the low vote by the media.

Tennessee was the unanimous choice of the 19 media members casting ballots for the preseason women’s basketball poll and a low score of 19. Georgia was tabbed second with 48, edging out last year’s regular season champion LSU in third with 51. There was another large gap before Vanderbiltin fourth with 85 points, followed by Kentucky in fifth at 91.

Florida was sixth with 126, Ole Miss seventh at 146 and Auburn eighth with 150. South Carolina was in ninth palce with 163 before Arkansas at 182. Alabama with 203 and Miss State with 218 rounded out the poll. Last season, Arkansas split with Vanderbilt and defeated both Florida and Auburn.

Practice continues for the Lady’Back basketball team this weekend as the squad prepares for next Saturday’s lone exhibition game. Arkansas hosts Missouri Southern on Nov. 4, a game that will now be played at 2 p.m. rather than the previously announced 7 p.m. to avoid conflicts with the Razorback football game on ESPN.
