Lady'Backs win doubles edged by Nebraska 4-3

Lincoln, Neb. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team got off on the right foot Monday, Feb. 13, by capturing their fourth doubles point of the year, but it was not enough to stop Nebraska from winning the match in singles, 4-3.

With the close win, Nebraska improved their home non-conference winning streak to 68 matches.

Leading the charge for Lady Razorback doubles was No. 1 team sophomore Maryori Franco and senior Karina Ledaja. Franco and Ledaja improve to 3-1 this spring with a win over Imke Reimers and Ewelina Skaza, 8-6

Freshmen Aurelija Miseviciute and Ela Kaluder iced the doubles point by gathering their fourth straight dual match doubles win. Miseviciute and Kaluder remain undefeated this year with an 8-5 win over Nebraska’s Milena Schultz-Gartner and Kim Hartmann.

In singles, Arkansas seemed to have put itself in prime position for an upset by winning four of six first sets. Miseviciute downed NU’s Kim Hartmann in straight sets for the second time in five months with 6-0, 6-2 post. With the win, Miseviciute improves to 14-1 in singles as a Lady’Back.

Senior Vlatka Jovanovic collected Arkansas’s other singles win in a three-set clash on court three against Vanessa Huente. Jovanovic won the first set, 6-4, but lost the second by the same score. In the third set, the Zagreb, Croatia, native rolled to a 6-3 win.

"It was a great college tennis match," women’s tennis head coach Michael Hegarty said. "We learned a lot today and I think this will help us in the long run."

The Lady Razorbacks are back on the courts at home Sunday, Feb. 18, against No. 19 William and Mary. Admission is free. For more information on Arkansas tennis or any other Lady Razorback sport, please visit LADYBACKS.COM.
