Laird qualifies at Texas Relays

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore Luke Laird punched his ticket to the post season in the javelin on day four of the Texas Relays, in Austin, on Saturday.

Laird made his 2009 debut in the javelin on Saturday. The 2008 SEC Champion in the event, Laird marked a toss of 205-11 to open the season. He earned an eighth-place finish with his regional-qualifying mark. His throw currently ranks sixth in the SEC.

Arkansas’ 4×200-meter relay picked up a sixth-place finish. The quartet of senior Mychael Stewart (21.18), freshman Travis Nollsch (21.39), senior J-Mee Samuels (20.19) and freshman Marek Niit (20.21) combined for a time of 1:23.47.

Freshman Rick Elliott, sophomore Chris Bilbrew, sophomore Michael Chinchar and senior Andy McClary competed in the distance medley relay. They clocked a time of 10:00.03 to finish fifth.

Senior Brent Rosson made his 2009 debut in the high jump. He finished tied for 14th with a clearance of 6-6.75.
