GUADALAJARA, Mexico — University of Arkansas coach Mike Larabee and Team USA captured their second and third victories at the Pan American Games on Tuesday. The team defeated the Dominican Republic 10-0 in four innings followed by a 7-0 win in five innings over Mexico.
Now 3-0 in the tournament the team faces another doubleheader today where they take on Cuba at 1 p.m. and Puerto Rico at 4 p.m.
Pitcher Chelsea Thomas (Pleasantville, Iowa / Missouri junior) recorded her first win in the tournament against the Dominican Republic throwing four innings and only allowing two hits. The team as a whole was connecting with the ball on the offensive side with Stacy May-Johnson leading the way. Johnson was 2-for-3 from the plate recording four RBI. She was followed by Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla. / Florida senior) who contributed three RBI and was 2-for-2 at the plate.
In their second match-up of the day Team USA blew past the host country with six players recording hits. Christi Orgeron (New Orleans, La. / Louisiana-Lafayette junior) led the way going 3-for-3 including a home run. Pitcher Keilani Ricketts (San Jose, Calif. / Oklahoma junior) grabbed the win with only allowing one hit and striking out six.
