Larabee at softball World Cup

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas head softball coach Mike Larabee heads to Oklahoma City, Okla., this week to serve as an assistant coach for the USA Futures National Team at the 2010 KFC World Cup of Softball presented by Six Flags, July 22-26.

Larabee and the Futures face Japan, Canada and the USA National team twice throughout the weekend with select games broadcast on ESPN. Saturday’s game between the USA team and the Futures airs on ESPN at 11 a.m. The final round of competition begins Monday, July 26, with the top-two teams playing for the World Cup title.

The Futures team includes three athletes from Southeast Conference schools as well as a number of athletes that recently came off an NCAA Women’s College World Series appearance in Oklahoma City, Okla.

At the 2009 World Cup, team USA swept the series with a 6-0 record with wins over Australia, Canada, Japan, Italy and the Netherlands to claim the gold medal.

Larabee is coaching alongside Kate Drohan (Evanston, Ill./head coach Northwestern) who serves as head coach of the USA Futures National Team as well as Jamie Pinkerton (Broken Arrow, Okla./asst. coach Iowa State).
