FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas swimmers head to the Last Chance Invitational in Athens, Ga., for the final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
The Razorbacks that did not compete at the 2011 Southeastern Conference Championships a week ago. Freshman Nicole Menzel is the only Hogs to compete at the Last Chance meet that also competed at the SEC Championships. Menzel finished 13th in the 1650 freestyle event at the SEC meet. She was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team that posted the Razorback’s best time of the season with 4:22.17.
"For a lot of the girls that didn’t go to the SEC Championship, this is their championship meet," Poppell said. "It is a good chance for them to improve on their top times this season."
Eight other swimmers will accompany Menzel at the Gabrielsen Natatorium this weekend.
Roughly, the top-30 swimmers in the country for each event qualify for the NCAA Championships. The 2011 edition of the national meet will be held in Austin, Texas, March 17-19.
The Last Chance Invitational begins Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. The meet is the last meet for the Razorbacks before NCAA postseason meets begin with the NCAA Zone Diving Championships on March 11-13 in Austin, Texas.
