PINEHURST, N.C. – University of Arkansas redshirt freshman Emma Lavy moved into the quarterfinals with a win Thursday at the 108th Women’s North & South Amateur Championship in Pinehurst, N.C.
Lavy, a Fayetteville, Ark., native, began stroke play early in the week and tied for 18th with a six-over 78 advancing to match play.
She opened with a 3 & 2 win over Courtney Ellenbogen of Blacksburg, Va., to start match play. Lavy followed with a 1-up win over Jackie Chang of Paradise Valley, Ariz., moving into the third round.
On Thursday, Lavy defeated Mia Piccio of Bradenton, Fla., in 22 holes. Lavy rallied from 1-down on the final hole of regulation to square the match. She took advantage of a bogey by Piccio and pared the 382-yard 18th hole to force additional holes.
Lavy next faces top-seed Cydney Clanton of Rockwell, N.C. Clanton has also had three match play wins and is one of the top amateurs. The players have a 9 a.m. tee time Friday.
