Lavy Carpenter on the road

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Fayetteville native and University of Arkansas freshman Emma Lavy and Razorback teammate Rachel Carpenter completed the first round of the 110th Women’s Western National Amateur Championship Monday.

The duo are taking part in a 36-hole stroke play qualifying round to establish flights. The field breaks into match play tree for the remainder of the week.

Lavy opened play with a first round 77 (39-38) at the par 72, 6,125-yard Rochester Golf and Country Club and is tied for 29th overall. Carpenter is tied for 56th overall after an opening round 82 (43-39). Stroke play continues Tuesday.

Lavy and Carpenter both redshirted the 2009-10 season with the Razorbacks.
