FAYETTEVILLE –University of Arkansas redshirt freshman Stacy Lewis has been named Golf World’s Women’s College Player of the Week in April 22 edition.
The Lady Razorbacks are ranked 19th in the latest Golf World Women’s College Coaches Poll. Duke leads the country followed by UCLA, Auburn, Washington and Georgia rounding out the top five.
The 13th-ranked college player in the country this week, Lewis’ honor is on the heels of a six-stroke win at the 2005 Southeastern Conference Championship in Tunica, Miss., last weekend.
The Woodlands, Texas, native carded a course competition and school record 67 in the final round posting a school record 214 for the three day event.
“We’re very proud of Stacy,” said head coach Kelley Hester. “She’s worked very hard to come back and, not only be competitive, but to win.”
The victory is Lewis’ third this year, the most single-season wins by an individual in school history. She leads the team and is sixth in the SEC with a 74.00 stroke average this year.
