Lewis advances through local qualifier

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of Arkansas sophomore Stacy Lewis carded a 72 at the St. Louis Country Club to advance at the U.S. Women’s Open Local Qualifier Tuesday. The Woodlands, Texas, native was one of 13 spots who qualified. Senior Courtney Mahon shot an 81 and did not qualify. “Stacy said the course was really tough,” said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. “There were 43 people playing for 13 spots at this qualifier.” Lewis moves on to the Sectional qualifier later this summer in an attempt to reach the U.S. Women’s Open. Teammate and senior Amanda McCurdy was exempt from the local qualifier and will take part in the sectional as well. Lewis and the Lady Razorbacks qualified for the 2006 NCAA Championship last week for the second consecutive season by way of an eighth-place finish at the regional championship. Lewis is the women’s golf program’s first-ever all-American and the first two-time all-Southeastern Conference first-team selection. For more information about Arkansas golf, log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
