Lewis cards even par 71 in third round

FAYETTEVILLE –University of Arkansas junior Stacy Lewis carded an even-par 71 in third round action at the 2007 Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic presented by Kroger Saturday. Lewis made the cut in her second LPGA event finishing in the mid-50s yesterday after opening tournament play with 71-72 for 143. Strong winds hampered afternoon sessions and the wind was again a factor in Lewis’ morning round Saturday. “It was tough out there today,” said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes. “The wind was brutal. Stacy played a really solid round. She had a couple birdies and a couple bogeys – it was just really solid. I’m really proud of the way she’s playing.” Lewis opened her day on the back nine and birdied the first hole she played. She gave the stroke back on the 13th and picked up another shot on the 16, both holes she has pared the two previous days. She made the turn one-over but was steady on the front nine. Lewis then birdied number seven, a hole she bogeyed in Friday’s round. “Stacy’s in good position,” said Estes. “She’s moving up the leaderboard and playing with a lot of confidence. This is a great experience and will make her a better golfer, both in college and at the next level.” Lewis came off the golf course tied for 38th overall with several golfers still completing their rounds.
