Lewis continues to play well

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas sophomore Stacy Lewis’ solid summer play continues to win matches and The Woodlands, Texas, native has again moved into the late rounds of the 106th National Amateur Championship. The par 71, 5,978-yard Fincastle Country Club Course in Bluefield, Va., has been kind to Lewis and she finds herself in the round of eight Friday morning facing Ashley Geier of Hagerstonwn, MD, for a 7:30 a.m. tee time. Lewis opened tournament play Monday carding a 68 in the first round. She paired that with a 72 on Tuesday for a 140 and medalist honors edging Eileen Vargas of Ibaque, Colombia, who posted a 141 (73-68). Lewis move into the championship flight facing Rita Albertson of Scottsdale, Ariz., winning four-and-three advancing to Thursday’s round of 32. Her stellar play continued with a four-and-three win over Belleville, Ill., native Ashley Freeman Thursday morning propelling Lewis into the round of 16 that afternoon. The afternoon flight saw Lewis make quick work of Morgan Olds of Stamford, Conn., four-and-three for the third consecutive time. Play continues through Saturday.
