Lewis earns SEC First-Team Honors

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas junior Stacy Lewis was selected to first-team All-Southeastern Conference by the league’s head coaches. The selection is the third consecutive first-team honor for The Woodlands, Texas, native and the fourth ever in the history of the Lady Razorback program. "This award is a tribute to how hard Stacy works," said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. "To be selected one year is good, two years is even better but three consecutive selections shows this is no fluke. Stacy is dedicated, a very hard worker and very deserving of this award." Lewis is the most decorated golfer in the history of the Lady Razorback program. She is a three-time first-team all-SEC selection and a two-time National Golf Coaches Association All-American. Lewis won the SEC Tournament as a freshman in 2005 carding a then school and course record 67 in the final round of play at Tunica National. Her amateur career includes ranking as the top amateur in 2006 thanks in part to medalist honors at the 11th World University Games, the 106h National Western Amateur, runner-up honors at the 91st Women’s Southern Amateur and a semifinal finish at the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Lewis was the first Lady Razorback to participate in an LPGA event earning an exemption to the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic last summer. She also earned an exemption to this year’s Kraft Nabisco Championship where she tied for fifth place while playing with the eventual winner in the final round. "I think Stacy’s selection is both a testament to her skill and the success of the team," said Hester. "It shows that we keep getting better. Rankings can rise and fall but the more individual accolades the team can rack up shows that we continue to be an up-and-coming program." Lewis had to withdraw from this year’s SEC Championship last week in West Point, Miss., after a chronic back injury became aggravated. She is expected to play at the 2007 NCAA Central Regional Championship May10-12. Official announcements for team selections to the regional championship are scheduled for the afternoon of Monday, April 30.
