Lewis moves on before rain moves in

PINEHURST, N.C. – University of Arkansas junior golfer Stacy Lewis notched a 6 & 5 win in her morning round before heavy rains washed out play at the 104th North and South Women’s Amateur Championship in Pinehurst, N.C., Thursday. Lewis, ranked as the No. 1 amateur in the country this week by Golfweek.com, defeated Jeehae Lee of Newhaven, Conn., 6 & 5 in the morning session moving on to the round of 16. The rains began before Lewis and Alison Whitaker of Beaumaris, Australia, could start. The third round was suspended at 2:03 p.m., Eastern. That match will resume Friday followed by the round of eight with the winner of the Lewis/Whitaker match taking on the winner of Piper Miller/Mary Jacobs during the afternoon session.
