Lewis takes lead leads United States

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas junior Stacy Lewis fired a two-under 70 helping the United States of America’s team improve its overall lead at the 2007 Copa de las Americas at Beacon Hill Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario, Canada, Friday. The three-time all-American and all-Southeastern Conference first-team selection teamed with Duke all-American Jennie Lee who carded a 78 lifting the women’s team to a 452, 21 strokes better than host and second-place Canada. Lewis and Lee are first and second as individuals, respectively with Lewis holding on to a four-stroke advantage over her teammate. USA captain Loren Singletary called Lewis’s round "spectacular." "I’ve learned from the past coupled of days," Lewis said, in regard to the weather and the course. She birdied six holes Friday for a total of eight during the Copa. "I made birdies on the 11th and 12th and I didn’t play those holes well Thursday so I am happy," Lewis said. "I hit two of the par 5s (12 and 15) in two, so all I had to do was putt for birdies." The fourth and final round begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
