Lewis Tied For 24th At LPGA State Farm Classic

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas senior Stacy Lewis fired a opening round 1-under 71 putting her in a tie for 24th at the LPGA’s State Farm Classic. “I thought I really played well today,” said Lewis. “I gave myself some good opportunites and that’s all I could really ask for.” The 2007 NCAA Champion had 3 birdies on the day in between bogies on the first and last holes of her round on the 6,608 yard layout at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Illinois. “I really like the course and I think it fits my game well.”, remarked Lewis. It was a performance for Lewis, who hit 12 fairways but only 11 greens in regulation while taking 28 putts. “I did put my tee shot on the last hole in the water,” noted the 2007 Dinah Shore Trophy recipient, “ but I did recover well to make bogey there. The wind was blowing pretty good and did affect shots at times, but overall, I was very pleased with my round.” Sherri Steinhauer is the first round leader at 5-under par. Lewis begins her second round at 8:21 a.m. off the first tee and is paired again with Paige Mackenzie and Simi Mehra. The Golf Channel will televise the 2nd round of the State Farm Classic Friday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m. The State Farm Classic is the third LPGA events Lewis has played in this year and she also participate in next week’s LPGA Northwest Arkansas Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers.
