FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former Razorback and current PGA Tour professional David Lingmerth has earned a spot to represent Sweden in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Lingmerth joins fellow countryman Henrik Stenson as golf returns to the Olympics for the first time since 1904 when the Games of the III Olympiad were held in St. Louis.

He enters the Olympics as the No. 14 seed in the field of 60 players and is ranked No. 49 in the latest world golf rankings. Lingmerth has a 70.8 scoring average during the 2016 PGA Tour season with seven top-25 finishes, including back-to-back top-15 finishes in his last two events at the U.S. Open (12th) and WGC-Bridgestone (T-7th).

The International Golf Federation (IGF) has utilized the world golf rankings to create the field of 60 players with the top-15 players in the world eligible for the event with a limit of four players from a given country. Beyond the top 15, players are eligible based on the world rankings with a maximum of two players from each country that does not already have two or more players among the top 15 in the world.

Winner of the 2015 Memorial Tournament, Lingmerth was a two-time All-American at Arkansas, helping guide the Razorbacks to a 2009 NCAA Championship runner-up finish. He also has the fifth-best career stroke average in program history at 72.73.

Lingmerth also ranks third in Arkansas history with 20 top-10 finishes. He captured his lone collegiate win at the Battle of the Beach in 2010 with a final round 7-under 64 at the Pelican Hill Golf Club Ocean Course in Newport Coast, California.
