Lingmerth Opens 2016 Where He Left Off

MAUI, Hawaii – David Lingmerth established himself as one of the PGA Tour’s upcoming stars in 2015 and continued that trend to open 2016, as he posted a 15th-place showing at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions held at Plantation Course at Kapalua this past weekend.

Lingmerth earned a spot in the field of 33 at the Hyundai Tournament of Championships by winning the Memorial Tournament last June. The win was part of Lingmerth’s breakout third year on the PGA Tour in which he earned over 2.7 million dollars and finished No. 37 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Entering the weekend after back-to-back two-under 71s, Lingmerth made his move during Saturday’s third round with a seven-under 66, overcoming a bogey on the 1st hole with eight birdies and no bogeys the rest of the round. The Momentum from Saturday’s round carried over into Sunday where he brought his streak of bogey-free holes to 34 while carding 12 birdies before finishing with a three-under 70.

Lingmerth’s 14-under (71-71-66-70) showing not only tied him for 15th place – his second top 20 in four PGA events in 2015-16 – but also moved him up 40 spots in the FedEx Cup standings into 66th position. He has made the cut in all four tournaments this season.

Lingmerth will continue his two-week stay in Hawaii at the Sony Open held at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.
