Lingmerth named SEC Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas senior David Lingmerth was named the Southeastern Conference men’s golf Player of the Week on Thursday afternoon by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.

Lingmerth got off to a fantastic start to the spring season by winning the Battle at the Beach in Newport Coast, Calif., earlier this week with a final round of 64. The victory by the Tranas, Sweden, native was his first as a collegiate and his seven-under-par final round was a career best score for 18 holes.

Even more impressive than Lingmerth’s final round or his 54-hole best score of 205 was the environment in which he was able to compete. Facing some of the nation’s top men’s golf teams, Lingmerth executed shot after shot on way to victory as he was paired with UCLA’s top player, and fellow Swede, Pontus Widegren. The tandem blistered the Pelican Hill Golf Club’s Ocean North Course for matching scores of 64 allowing Arkansas’ player to finish the tournament at eight under par, one stroke ahead of his playing partner.

For the year Lingmerth is averaging a team best 70.59 and has shot 10 under par over seven tournaments. He has been at par or better for an entire tournament four times this season and had six top 10 finishes of which four have been among the top three.

The Razorbacks return to the course on March 5 when they travel to the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
