Linksters 13th in tough field

Jumpto final results DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 20th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team finished 13th at the NCAA Fall Preview in Daytona Beach, Fla., Sunday. Arkansas finished with a final round 301 for a 905 (307-297-301) against one of the toughest fields outside of the NCAA Championship. “We shot 301 today and I’m glad to get out with that score,” said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. “All of the scores were a bit higher and that’s not too bad to end with. This is a very good field and I thought we hung in there against some great teams and we beat a few teams who were ranked ahead of us. That’s always good.” Junior Stacy Lewis and sophomore Lucy Nunn paced the Lady Razorbacks tying for 29th overall. Lewis was low for Arkansas in the final round with a one-under 71 on the par 72 Legends Course at LPGA International finishing with a 224 (78-75-72). Nunn posted a final-round 73 (75-76-73) for her 224. Junior Ashley Medders tied for 40th overall with a 227 (77-71-79) followed by freshman Alex Schulte who tied for 52nd with a 230 (77-75-78). Freshman Tanica van As tied for 89th overall with a 252 (81-84-87). Third-ranked Georgia won the event with a five-over 869 (289-295-285), followed by No. 1 Duke at 878 (306-288-284). Number seven UCLA was third with an 885 (204-298-283) with No. 4 Auburn (298-290-300-888) and No. 10 Vanderbilt (302-297-291=890) rounding out the top five. The Lady’Backs finished 13th overall ahead of No. 5 Purdue (908), No. 16 Texas A&M (921), No. 19 UNLV (923), and No. 18 California (929) Arkansas returns to action as fall play continues Oct. 13-15 traveling to the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.
