Lopez Eliminated At U.S. Women’s Am

PORTLAND, Ore. – University of Arkansas senior Gabriela Lopez continues to play well at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in Portland, Ore., this week.

The Mexico City, Mexico, native finished the two-round stroke play shooting 148 and in 58th place making the cut to the 64-player match play rounds.

Lopez defeated seventh-seeded Samantha Wagner, 5 & 3, in the round of 64 Wednesday.  The match was square after seven holes and Lopez won six holes including four of the last five to secure the match.

Lopez moved on to the round of 32 facing Bronte Law of England.  The Razorback was able to grab the first lead winning the second hole but the match was squared after Law won the fourth hole.

Law then went on a run winning four of the next six holes moving to three-up at the turn.  The players were even on holes 10, 11, 12 and 13 before Lopez made a run of her own.

Lopez birdied the 14th and 15th holes to trail by one with three holes to go.  Lopez and Law split the 16th hole but Law posted an eagle with a two on the par-3 17th hole to eliminate Lopez and win the match 2-up.
