CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — University of Arkansas sophomore Gabriela Lopez carded a first round two-under 70 and is tied for fifth place at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C., Friday. The Mexico City, Mexico, native opened with a bogey on the first hole but quickly settled in rattling off three par holes. She counted an eagle with a two on the par three fifth hole moving back to even and added her second birdied on the par four seventh hole falling to one-under. Lopez turned and birdied the 10th hole with a three on the par four hole and closed out her round with eight consecutive pars for her 70. “It was a little bit of a slow start today but I’m really proud of Gaby,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “She had a solid performance today and everyone else had to grind a little bit. We are not too far behind and we have an opportunity to go out and commit to our process of hitting one golf shot at a time and move up the leaderboard. We have a great game plan in place for this golf course and we are looking forward to taking advantage of that and of some good weather tomorrow.” Cool and rainy conditions saw the No. 7 @RazorbackWGolf team shoot 296 in the first round and the team stands in eighth place overall.
