Lucy Nunn wins the 93rd Southern Women's Amateur

KINGWOOD, Texas – University of Arkansas junior Lucy Nunn won the 93rd Women’s Southern Amateur title in Kingwood, Texas, Friday. Nunn becomes the second consecutive Lady Razorback golfer to win the title following Stacy Lewis who won last year’s event in Birmingham, Ala. Nunn, a Lawton, Okla., native, sank a par putt on the 34th hole of the 36-hole finals on the Island Course, a par 72, 6,044-yard course, edging LSU’s Lindy Labauve in the amateur event. Nunn and Labauve were all square through the first 18 holes. Nunn grabbed the lead and was three-up in the next nine holes but Labauve won the 27th hole cutting into the lead. The players turned and Nunn again took a three-up lead but Labauve birdied the 29th hole cutting the advantage to two. The players halved the next holes before Nunn won the 33rd hole with a par and closed the match in the next hole with the 3 and 2 win. The victory is the first amateur title for Nunn who returns to campus this fall as the lone senior on the 2008-09 Lady Razorback team. Lady Razorback teammate Tiffany Phelps won the first flight consolation Friday as well. Phelps, a McKinny, Texas, native, defeated Shelley McGraw, 5 and 4.
