Mallett named Walter Camp Player to Watch

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has been named one of 15 Players to Watch for the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s 2010 Player of the Year award.

Mallett has completed 212-of-315 passes for 2,967 yards and 24 touchdowns. During his Razorback career, he has set or matched 37 different school or stadium records. His 296.7 passing yards per game lead the SEC and rank fifth in the NCAA, while his 24 completions of at least 30 yards are tied for the NCAA lead.

Mallett has thrown for at least 300 yards in seven games this season, breaking his single-season school record from 2009 and extending his Arkansas career record to 12. Included was a 409-yard performance vs. Vanderbilt that broke the school record of 408 he put up in 2009. The Vanderbilt showing was the fourth 400-yard game of his career. Before the Texarkana, Ark., native came to Arkansas, the school had never had a 400-yard passer in a single game.

Alist of five finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award will be released Dec. 1. The 2010 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient will be presented live on Dec. 9 during the 6 p.m. ET edition of Sportscenter. The winner will receive his trophy at the Foundation’s annual national award banquet on Jan. 15 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven, Conn.
