Mascall and Strode Take Doubles Title at Midland Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Arkansas tennis completed competition at the Midland and South Carolina Invitationals on Sunday. Colin Mascall and Blake Strode took the doubles title at the Midland Invitational in Midland, Texas.

At the Midland Invitational, Mascall and Strode egded Federico Murgier and Alex Skrypko of SMU, 9-8 (7-2) to take the doubles title.

In singles play, Strode topped Claudio Christen of Arizona, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals of the main draw. He then fell to the eventual singles champion Bojan Szumanski of Texas Tech, 7-5, 6-2.

Mascall made it to the finals of the consolation draw after taking down Oivind Alver of SMU, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Mascall was up 6-4, 3-0 over UT-Arlington’s Daniel Omana before the consolation singles championship was called because of inclement weather.

In Columbia, Drew Sosebee won the B-2 singles consolation draw. He found wins over Diego Martinez of Troy, 6-3, 6-1, Richard Cahi of Wofford, 6-2, 6-4 and Mehdi Benhammou of Radford, 6-2, 6-1.

Gabriel Mattos advanced to the semifinals of the B-1 singles flight with wins over Henrik Lilja of Armstrong Atlantic, 6-0, 6-1, Spencer Feldman of South Carolina, 6-3, 6-3 and then lost to Omer Abramovich of the College of Charleston, 6-3, 6-1.
