McCurdy 12th Arkansas 8th overall after the second round

Jump to agate AUBURN, Wash. – The 10th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team remains in the top eight after second-round action at the 2006 NCAA West Regional Championship in Auburn, Wash., Friday. Senior Amanda McCurdy fired a second-day 79 (69-79) for a 148 and is tied for 12th in the 108-player field to lead the Lady Razorbacks who finished with a 307. Arkansas stands in eighth place after the second round with a two-day 606. The top eight teams in the 24-team regional advance to the NCAA Championship next week. “We turned at three or four over,” said head coach Kelley Hester, “and really kinda struggled on the second nine. I feel like this is a golf course we can play well on. We didn’t putt as well today as yesterday. We turned in pretty good shape but just started dropping a couple shots here and there. It all adds up. We’re going to regroup tomorrow and try and catch some of those teams ahead of us and move up.” Sophomore Stacy Lewis checked in with a second-round 74 to lead Arkansas on Friday. Lewis is tied for 27th overall with a two-day 151 (77-74). Senior Lindsey Hinshaw is tied for 46th with a 154 (77-77) followed by senior Courtney Mahon who is tied for 71st with a 158 (81-77). Sophomore Ashley Medders was disqualified for a scorecard error but will return to action Saturday. Eighth-ranked Purdue leads the field with a seven-over 583 (289-294) on the par-72 Washington National Golf Course. Number two UCLA (288-303) is currently tied for second along with host and 29th-ranked Washington (288-303) with 591 followed by a tie for fourth between No. 17 Stanford (303-295) and No. 6 Georgia (296-302) with 598. Arizona, ranked 22nd, jumped into sixth place with a 603 (303-300) with No. 14 UNLV in seventh, one stroke up on the Lady’Backs. The Rebels counted a 605 (304-301) edging Arkansas’ 606 (299-307). The Lady’Backs stand three strokes ahead of No. 27 BYU who is ninth overall with a 609 (307-302). Play concludes Saturday in the final round at Washington National Golf Course.
