McCurdy Closes Opening Round With Birdie Stands At +4

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, COLORADO – Amanda McCurdy finished her first round at the U.S. Women’s Open with a bang by draining a 10-foot putt for birdie to finish with a 4-over 75. “That was a great putt and a great approach shot to set it up," noted Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. "I’m very proud of her for bouncing back with three great shots after the bogey on 17.” Weather halted McCurdy’s opening round twice yesterday and when play was called for the day she still had two holes to play. McCurdy’s group resumed play on the difficult 206-yard par-3 eighth where her tee shot found the front bunker. A nice sand wedge put her eight feet short of the hole, but her putt just burned the right edge leaving a 10-inch comeback putt which she sank for bogey. McCurdy finished round one hitting 12 of 14 fairways and 10 of the 18 greens in regulation. Her second round will tee off as scheduled at 8:17 a.m. local time off the historic first tee.
