McCurdy sixth Arkansas tied for third after second round
Jump to scores FAYETTEVILLE — High winds prompted higher scores but the University of Arkansas hung on in third place after day two action at the Lady Razorback Invitational at Pinnacle Country Club Monday. Junior Amanda McCurdy carded a second round 77 as Arkansas turned in a 310 to tie Texas A&M with a 613 through two rounds of play. El Dorado, Ark., native McCurdy is tied for sixth overall standing at 150. Freshman Stacy Lewis and senior Hot Springs, Ark., native Gena Johnson are tied for 11th overall at 152. Lewis posted Arkansas’ lowest round of the day turning in a 74 (78-74) while Johnson carded at 77 (75-77). Iowa State maintained its lead on the field posted a second-round 304 for a 601 (297-304). They lead the field by 10 strokes with Missouri second at 611 (309-302). The Tigers tied Texas A&M for the lowest second round score with both teams carding a 302 Monday. Arkansas and the Aggies are tied for third, followed by Illinois State (305-314=619), Michigan (306-315=621), Notre Dame (314-308=622), Kansas (316-310=626), Nebraska (323-305=628), Wisconsin (317-314=631) and Alabama (310-321=631) rounding out the top 10. "We lost a few strokes coming in today and we are continuing to make mistakes that hurt us," said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. "This is our home course and it’s very important to defend your home course. We are going to have to play better tomorrow in order to do that. I told the team to put on their game hats and we have to see how they respond. We have a good field and we can’t get away with playing average." Iowa State’s Lisa Meshke leads the field with a four-under 140 with back-to-back rounds of 70. Texas A&M’s Brenda Norris is second at 147 (74-73) followed by Illinois State’s Samantha Richdale in third with a 148 (75-73). Play concludes Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Lady Razorback Invitational is the final event of the fall for Arkansas.
