McKinney Earns SEC Freshman of the Week Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After another stellar outing over the weekend, Arkansas right-handed pitcher Keaton McKinney has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors the league office announced on Sunday.

The true freshman continues to stifle opposing hitters after tossing 7.0 shutout innings Friday at Georgia to help Arkansas close the regular season with another series victory. He allowed just four hits and added four strikeouts as the Razorbacks avoided consecutive losses for the first time since March, closing the regular season without losing an SEC series over the final eight weekends.

McKinney is just two weeks removed from earning SEC Pitcher of the Week honors and is the only pitcher in the SEC to earn the league’s Freshman and Pitcher of the Week honors this season.

McKinney has been untouchable over his last six starts, posting a 5-0 record with a 1.56 earned run average. He has allowed just two earned runs over his last four starts and 26.0 innings of work for a 0.69 ERA.

The Ankeny, Iowa native is the only freshman in the SEC to throw a complete game this season. McKinney has two complete games over his last six starts, including a complete-game shutout over Alabama three weeks ago.

The 5th-seeded Razorbacks open play in the 2015 SEC Tournament on Tuesday, May 19, taking on No. 12 seed Tennessee at approximately 8 p.m. CT on SEC Network. The winner will advance to the double elimination portion of the bracket to play No. 4 seed Florida.
