Media guide honored

FAYETTEVILLE – The 2004 University of Arkansas Lady Razorback Cross Country Media Guide was named third best in the nation and voted as the nation’s best cover by the College Sports Information Director’s of America it was announced recently.

The awards are not the first for Arkansas Lady Razorback cross country media guide but several in a long line of success for the publication as judged against other collegiate cross country books from across the nation. In 2003, Arkansas’ book was also named the third best in the nation. Arkansas’ best cover distinction is a first for its cross country book and only the second ever given to a Lady Razorback media guide.

“It is a great honor to be judged one of the nation’s best, especially when you look at the number of books that are submitted for each of these contests,” Arkansas assistant communications director Phil Pierce said. “I thought that the media guide was put together well and had the information that was needed, but the shock came with the cover. I never imagined that it would be voted best in the country.”

Arkansas’ media guide was written, typeset and designed by Pierce with assistance from Associate Athletic Director Dr. Bill Smith. The cover concept was also Pierce’s and executed by staff photographer David Yerby in his studio.
