Men's Basketball Announces Suspensions

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas men’s head basketball coach John Pelphrey announced the details of game suspensions made in conjunction with disciplinary actions for members of his team Tuesday afternoon.

Pelphrey assigned suspensions based on violations of team rules that have occurred since the completion of the 2008-09 season. Freshman Glenn Bryant will miss two games. Junior Marcus Britt will not play in the Razorbacks’ first six regular season games following two separate violations of team rules. Walk-on student-athlete Nick Mason will not be permitted to be on Arkansas’ dress roster for games during the fall semester. Senior Stef Welsh and sophomore Courtney Fortson have been suspended indefinitely from competition for unrelated violations of team rules. A timetable for their return will be independent of each other and has not been determined.

All suspensions will be served concurrently starting with the Alcorn State game on Friday, Nov. 13. In addition to the game suspensions, as previously outlined, team members have participated in supplemental mandatory educational programming, community service requirements and additional conditioning and training regimens.

"In the course of this process, we analyzed each student-athlete’s situation independently and made determinations based on each set of circumstances," Pelphrey said. "We will continue to address disciplinary matters in a straight-forward manner and take action when players do not meet the expectations of conduct required of our student-athletes. Our program remains committed to representing the University of Arkansas, individually and collectively, in an appropriate manner."

The Razorbacks open the 2000-10 regular season on Friday night against Alcorn State, at Bud Walton Arena. Tip is set for 7:05 p.m. For more information regarding Razorback men’s basketball or University of Arkansas athletics, please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
