Men’s Basketball hosts Longwood

The University of Arkansas basketball team hosts Longwood University at Bud Walton Arena on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m., as it looks to remain undefeated on the year. Arkansas (1-0) is coming off a season opening victory over Sam Houston State, 73-68, but has had more than a week off from competition. Head coach Mike Anderson used that time to continue to improve his squad and has the Razorbacks poised execute his “Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball.” In the Sam Houston State game, junior Coty Clarke tallied a game high 20 points for the Razorbacks while grabbing four boards. He was joined in double digits by junior Marshawn Powell who scored 14 and had a team high five rebounds and sophomore Hunter Mickelson who tallied 11. As a team, Arkansas was deadly from the free throw line, sinking 26-of-32 shots from the charity stripe. Longwood (0-2) lost its season opener on the road at Marshall, 81-47, before dropping its home opener to Norfolk State, 78-66, on Thursday evening. The Lancers looked better in their second game of the season, but continue to struggle shooting the ball and have a team shooting percentage of 35.8 percent. Michael Kessens is averaging 14.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game to lead Longwood. Tristan Carey (10.5 ppg) and Nik Brown (10.0 ppg) also average double-digit scoring. The Razorbacks are looking to go 2-0 in Sunday’s game for the third consecutive season and sixth time in seven years. Last year Arkansas opened the year 2-0 before falling to Houston at Verizon Arena in Little Rock. Season tickets for Razorback basketball games as well as mini-plans are on sale at the Razorback Ticket Center by calling 1-800-982-HOGS or by going on-line at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
