GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The No. 6 University of Arkansas men’s golf team opens its spring season on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Sun Trust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., with the first two of three rounds at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. The Razorbacks are one of 14 teams competing at the tournament which features five teams ranked in the latest top 25. Along with Arkansas, No. 3 Auburn and No. 7 North Florida rank in the top 10 nationally with No. 19 Florida State and No. 17 Central Florida also in the top 25. Other teams in the competition include the host Florida, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Memphis, Mississippi State, South Alabama and UAB. “This should be a good tournament to get the spring started with,” Arkansas Head Coach Brad McMakin said. “We’ll be facing very good competition on a challenging course. Fortunately for us, the weather has been mild and we’ve been able to get out and practice the last couple of weeks. We are ahead of where we were last year at this time and I think it will help us get off to a solid start.” The Arkansas lineup includes six players for the Gator Invitational. Senior Ethan Tracy, who was just named to the Ben Hogan Award watch list, leads the group which also includes juniors Austin Cook and Josh Eure, sophomore Sebastian Cappelen and freshmen Kolton Crawford and Thomas Sorensen. Sorensen joined the Razorbacks at semester from Denmark and is making his collegiate debut in Gainesville. Arkansas ended the fall season winning four of the five tournaments that it competed in, including the Cabo Collegiate to end the semester with a combined team score of 21-under par. As a team, the Razorbacks are 60-5 this season with Tracy playing the most consistent golf of anyone. The Hilliard, Ohio, native finished among the top five in four tournaments and shot below par for the tournament in each of the last three competitions. The Razorbacks are scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m. with pairings yet to be determined.
